Day 12 - Varkala

Woke up to torrential rain, but by the time we were ready to go to breakfast, it was off and it had already started to dry up (the benefits of a hot climate :-)  )

We took a walk north towards the Black Beach, which as the name suggests is composed of black sand.  There were a couple of people with surfboards, trying (and in the main failing) to get out and surf.  They were trying to walk the boards out instead of paddling out, and were getting washed back in to shore.

On the way back, we stopped off at Cafe Del Mar again for a drink and some pakora, before coming back to the room to drop off some stuff that Karen had bought.

Heading back up towards the the beach, we walked up Beach Road, until we came to the local Hindu temple.  It wasn't open to non-Hindus, but I did get a photo of the entrance.

We decide to keep walking up to Varkala Junction (the main bit of town), where there was a demonstration by the Communist Party!!!  On the way back, we jumped a ride in a tuk-tuk, which was a blast.

Back at the hotel it was time for a swim, before Karen had to head out to keep an appointment to get mehendi done on her arm.  All henna-ed and it was into the Juice Shack (whick is all reggae-esque and really cool) for a juice, then on somewhere else for dinner.  Found a nice place we hadn't tried yet and Karen went for the local fish curry.  Not being a fan of fish, I went for a korma, which for a korma, was pretty spicy.  Really nice though.
